New Orleans, Louisiana, 9-10 August

Who Dat! The Super bowl Champions, the New Orleans Saints famous catch cry is everywhere and it is obvious from the moment you enter the city that they are still celebrating the football win.

We were welcomed into New Orleans with a torrential rain storm, which for locals may have been nothing, but for us was the most rain we’d seen in a long time. It made it easy to see how more serious storms could wreak havoc on the city, which is still recovering from Hurricane Katrina.

Thankfully the rain cleared the next day and we were able to explore the French Quarter and the Garden District. Bryan, a colleague from Austrade, introduced us to Southern specialties….the roast beef Po-Boy sandwich and the Muffaletta. Both are huge sandwiches and while the Po-Boy I had was a little messy it was delicious. Thanks Bryan.

The process of us eating our way around the city continued in the afternoon with a visit to Café du Monde where we enjoyed a frozen coffee and their famous Beignets. Beignets are like donuts (without the hole) covered in powdered sugar, yum, yum!

To complete our food tour of New Orleans we also tried Alligator, gumbo, jambalaya, crawfish and of course a Hurricane on Bourbon Street. Learning from others mistakes (Maxine) I decided to stop at just one.

My before and after photos with my Hurricane.
